Lazio beats Juventus in Coppa Italia semi-final

Bianconeri fall at the Olimpico

Lazio booked their place in the Coppa Italia final with a 2-1 win over Juventus in the second leg of their semi-final at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.

The Biancocelesti had won the first leg 2-1 in Turin, and they completed the job in Rome thanks to goals from Manuel Lazzari and Felipe Anderson.

Juventus got a goal back through Dusan Vlahovic, but it was not enough to prevent them from being eliminated from the competition.

Lazio will now face either Inter Milan or AC Milan in the final on May 3.

Highlights

  • Lazio took the lead in the 23rd minute through Lazzari, who fired a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
  • Juventus equalized in the 55th minute through Vlahovic, who headed home from a cross by Juan Cuadrado.
  • Lazio regained the lead in the 74th minute through Anderson, who finished off a counter-attack with a clinical strike.

Reaction

"We are very happy to have reached the final," said Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri. "We played a great game against a very strong Juventus team." "We deserved to win," said Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri. "We had some chances to score more goals, but we were not clinical enough."

What's next?

Lazio will now turn their attention to the Serie A title race, where they are currently fourth, two points behind leaders AC Milan. Juventus, meanwhile, will be looking to bounce back when they host Spezia in Serie A on Sunday.
